Lithium-Ion batteries are known to unexpectedly re-ignite (without warning) minutes, hours and even days after all visible fire has been put out. Lithium-ion batteries can enter an uncontrollable, self-heating state. This can result in the release of toxic gases which can cause a fire or possible explosion. The BerkiCold premix reacts with lithium oxide present in lithium batteries to form lithium hydroxide which aids with cooling.

The cooling process is very gentle and does not generate thermal shock, an important factor where metals are involved. The system is safe in terms of electroconductivity. Distilled water is used so there are no residues, making it ideal for electronics.
